Custom Belt Furnace Configuration
BTU’s custom belt furnaces come in two basic configurations: muffle or muffle-less. A muffle furnace is typically used in applications where control of temperature and atmosphere are of utmost concern – or for special process atmospheres such as Hydrogen. A muffle-less furnace has operational advantages for use cases where the furnace will be heated up and cooled down frequently while still providing precise control of temperature and atmosphere.
The features and characteristics of the belt furnaces that are usually customized based on the customer’s application and throughput needs are:
- overall furnace length
- maximum process temperature
- process chamber width and height (clearance)
- number of heated zones
- cooling length and zones
- belt loading
- atmosphere capabilities including control and safety considerations
BTU’s sales and applications teams will work with customers to configure the best possible custom belt furnace for each application. In some cases, product trials will be run at our facility in Westford, MA, USA. In many cases we will be able to offer suggested furnace configurations for common product/profile combinations. Key inputs to the configuration process of a custom belt furnace include product size and weight, thermal profile, throughput requirements, available factory space and atmosphere requirements.
Advanced Analytical/Modeling Capabilities
BTU’s experienced team of engineers employs the latest technology in furnace system design including CAD, Finite Element Analysis, and Computational Fluid Dynamics. These advanced techniques accelerate the development process while reducing errors and variation in design. In partnership with customers, these tools can be used to analyze and solve the most complex thermal processing challenges resulting in the world’s best performing custom continuous belt furnaces.
